Message from the President
November 2011
I hope everyone has returned from their summer vacations, having
spent time with family and friends and being reinvigorated for a
very special and fast-paced year. This year we celebrate many
milestones as 1000+ Club to Benefit Cancer, Inc.
Imagine it's been 33 years since the 1000+ Club was started by a small group of community-minded women who wanted to make a difference in the lives of patients diagnosed with cancer in Broward County.
To date, the 1000+ Club members have raised over $3.6 million dollars. Two years ago the Board decided to become it's own 501(c)3 and became the 1000+ Club to Benefit Cancer, Inc. It has been a very exciting time and wonderful opportunity for us to direct our funds to areas where we believe they will be most useful in the community.
This past year our major event, the "Women of the Year Luncheon" helped raise over $175,000.00. Our newly formed Charitable Giving Committee worked through the summer developing the application process by which we would evaluate nonprofit organizations in Broward County which would make applications for grant funding. All applications for grants had to meet our Mission Statement criteria for treatment, education or research for cancer patients in Broward County.
We are very happy to announce that, at our October 20, 2011
"Little Black Dress and Pearls" Kick-Off for the 2012 Women of
the Year Luncheon, we also distributed $170,000.00 during our
Charitable Giving Grant Presentation. Five wonderful projects
will be funded this year. The organizations include Broward
Health Foundation, Gilda's Club South Florida, Holy Cross
Hospital, Jessica June Children's Cancer Foundation, and Joe
DiMaggio Children's Hospital. Photographs of this event can be

This year is our 30th Annual Women of the Year Luncheon. It is a Pearl Anniversary and each of our events will have a pearl theme. The "Pearls of the Season Luncheon," which kicks off our fundraising season, takes place at the Riverside Hotel on December 1, 2011. This will be an exciting day as we officially announce the names of the Women of the Year Organizations and their respective Honorees.
The season continues with many events leading up to the Women of the Year Luncheon, "Pearls of Promise" which will be held at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa on April 4, 2012. I would like to take this opportunity, to thank our Board, Membership and Sponsors for their dedication to 1000+ Club, and their shared desire to see a cure for cancer. I appreciate your support and look forward to another wonderful year making a difference in our community and the lives of those living with cancer.
Warmest Regards,
Deborah
